Recent auditions for the Papaw Patch, a play currently in production in the Tri-Community.

A new theatrical production is on the horizon, promising to whisk audiences away on a journey through time and emotion. Titled “Papaw Patch,” this forthcoming play set in the heart of the Civil War era beckons actors and production professionals alike to join in bringing its compelling narrative to life.

Penned by 78-year-old playwright and animator Johnny Evans of Los Angeles, “Papaw Patch” delves into themes of love, maturity, and the complexities of justice. For Evans, the project is more than just another script—it’s a spiritual calling deeply rooted in black culture.

Facilitating Evans’ vision is Novel Vasquez, a longtime friend with a passion for storytelling. While Novell brings acting experience to the table, this marks her debut as a director and producer. Together, they’re committed to making “Papaw Patch” a reality, rallying a diverse cast and crew to bring the story to fruition.

Casting for “Papaw Patch” is open to all, with roles available for actors of any age, gender, or ethnic background. In addition to performers, the production is seeking assistance in various behind-the-scenes roles, from costume management to prop coordination.

Auditions, involving cold readings, are slated for May 30, 2024, with further details to follow. Interested individuals are encouraged to reach out for more information.

As Evans and Novel embark on this creative journey, they invite aspiring actors and production professionals alike to join them. Whether you’re drawn to the stage or behind the scenes, “Papaw Patch” offers an opportunity to be part of a timeless tale that transcends boundaries.
