What began with one donated stage platform at Village Grind has grown into a community-backed project celebrating live music in the heart of Wrightwood.
The Wrightwood Blues Society and Village Grind will officially unveil a new stage façade during a ribbon cutting at noon Wednesday, June 10, at Village Grind in Wrightwood.
The façade was financed by Village Grind and the Wrightwood Blues Society, with contributions from local artists and businesses. It includes a mural of Inspiration Point by Wrightwood Wall of Fame artist Pat Ferrell, with construction donated by Doran Construction.
Wrightwood Blues Society President Greg Jones said Village Grind has long served as a center-of-town gathering place for music. Last year, one band donated a platform for musicians to play on. Later, another band donated a second platform.
“In the spirit of such cooperation, it was a natural progression for WBS to spearhead something as well,” Jones said.
Artist Ric Rice developed the layout for the project, while Village Grind owner Linda Henry suggested the overall look. Jones said the project moved forward with help from Cris Doran and Doran Construction.
The new façade is expected to help spotlight live music at Village Grind, including the Hot Summer Wednesday Nights series, which begins June 17.
The ribbon cutting will recognize the collaboration between Village Grind, the Wrightwood Blues Society, local artists, musicians and businesses who helped support the project.
The Wrightwood Blues Society, founded in 2018, promotes live music, music education and community events rooted in the American blues tradition and related styles. Its work includes supporting local performances and programs that bring musicians and residents together, making the Village Grind project a natural extension of its mission.
