Luis “Louie” Belmontes Ramos, Sr. passed away peacefully at his Victorville home on March 22, 2024, at the age of 93. He was surrounded by his beloved wife and sons.
Born on October 5, 1930, in El Paso, Texas, to Pedro Rios Ramos and Maria Belmontes Ramos, Louis led a life filled with love, dedication, and service. After graduating from San Bernardino High School in 1949, Louie pursued his passion for baseball at California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo on a scholarship but was drafted and served in the 24th and 54th infantry divisions of the Army during the Korean War.
Louie married Margaret Elvira Gomez on November 12, 1955. Following his military service, Louie worked for the County of San Bernardino and then at Norton Air Force Base for 27 years. He retired in 1985 as supervisor for the mail department. An active community member, Louie coached youth baseball for many years and served as a Eucharistic Minister at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 905 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Phelan.
In 1996, Louie and Margaret moved to Victorville, where they enjoyed their retirement with their grandchildren and friends. Louie was preceded in death by his parents, Pedro and Maria; his siblings, Consuelo (David), Carmen (Joe), Maria (Louie), Antonia (Javier), Pedro Jr. (Helen), Daniel (Virgie), and his son, Michael. He is survived by his wife, Margaret, brother Jose (Yolanda); his children Louis Jr. (Georgia), Lawrence, and Leonard (Mary); daughter-in-law Evelyn; nine grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. He has numerous nephews and nieces.
His memory will be forever cherished by his family and friends. A celebration of life was held on April 16, 2024, at Saint Junipero Serra Catholic Church in Phelan, California. A reception followed at Knights of Columbus Hall in San Bernardino, California. He was interred on April 24 at Riverside National Cemetery.
