The Tri-Community is coming together to celebrate the start of the Little League baseball season. Both Sunset Community Little League and Wrightwood Little League are holding their opening day ceremonies in April and are bringing together players, families, and community members to kick off the season.
Sunset Community Little League’s opening day is being held on Saturday, April 6th, at Phelan Elementary. The field is open for fun starting at 9:00 am, and the ceremony begins at 10:30 am with the National Anthem, presenting the Hometown Hero Award, and all 32 teams consisting of 380 players. The day concludes with a showcase game featuring two of the Majors 12yo teams, the Sunset Bananas vs the Party Animals, beginning at noon. Throughout the day, there will be food trucks, including Street Treats, Brew & Moo Coffee, and The Doughnut Cafe. There will also be a fundraiser raffle with fantastic prizes, a gear-swap table, and the fan wear shop with this season’s gear. Community members can also visit with the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Search & Rescue, Fire Department, Probation K-9, and Phelan Memorial Library.
Wrightwood Little League’s opening day is April 13th at 8:30 am on the lower field at Wrightwood Elementary. The day starts with a pancake breakfast, and the ceremony begins with team introductions and a special surprise guest throwing out the first pitch. Games are played all day, and community members are invited to join in on the kickoff of a great season.
Both leagues are excited to see what the season brings and are looking forward to the community coming out to support the players. Wrightwood Little League also needs umpires and welcomes grandparents, parents, aunts/uncles, and friends to become an umpire. The Little League baseball season is an exciting time for the communities of Phelan and Wrightwood. These opening day ceremonies provide an excellent opportunity for players, families, and community members to come together and show their support for the teams.
