Every Friday evening thru July 30th the PPHCSD Parks and Recreation and Tri-Community Kiwanis are hosting “Classic Movies In The Park.” Each Friday a different classic movie will be presented on a large outdoor screen. Those who attend often bring chairs, blankets, friends, and family as they enjoy the movie sitting on the grass. The Tri-Community Kiwanis also sells snacks and drinks to raise money for the Serrano Key Club.
Over 140 people attended the latest movie night, a showing of “The Little Mermaid” on July 2. The movies in the park series is proving to be a community favorite. The July 9, movie will be “The Parent Trap.” The movie will start at dusk around 8:00 pm. Enjoy 3 types of popcorn and a large variety of candy treats at the Kiwanis Key Club table.
The first movie of the series was Disney’s Peter Pan. The movie was scheduled for 7pm, however, it started later because the sun was still too bright. Because of this future events will begin at 8pm with the movie starting soon after at dusk. Fortunately, kids played on the playground equipment and played on the grass. Adults seemed to relax, patiently as they had already planned to spend the evening at the park. The PPHCSD offered free bottled water to everyone due to the inconvenience. In all about 65 people attended this new summer event and seemed to really enjoy the wholesome feel of the park.
Movies scheduled are: July 16th – “Lady and the Tramp”. July 23rd – “Pollyanna”. July 30th – “Aladdin”. Phelan Community Park is located at 4176 Warbler Road. This event is sponsored by the PPHCSD and Tri-Community Kiwanis.
