Free classes hosted by the Phelan Pinon Hills Community Services District will continue through May at the Phelan Community Center, located at 4176 Warbler Road at Sheep Creek Road. Community members are invited to participate in a variety of weekly programs designed for both youth and adults.
Advance registration is required for each class at www.pphcsd.org/events to reserve a spot. Participants who are unable to attend after signing up are encouraged to notify the office at 760-868-1212 so others may take their place.
A Kid’s Judo Class for ages 10 and older is held every Friday from 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. The class is led by a certified second-degree black belt through the United States Judo Association. No experience or uniform is required, and all skill levels are welcome.
Adults can take part in a free culinary workshop on Saturday, May 23, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. This hands-on class invites participants to create quiche while enjoying a relaxed brunch-style atmosphere. No prior baking experience is necessary.
The Comic Book Club meets every Thursday from 2:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and is open to youth ages 7 to 14. Participants learn the basics of visual storytelling and comic creation using a variety of materials, with a different theme explored each week.
Students in kindergarten through 12th grade who attend school in Phelan or Pinon Hills are invited to participate in the Earth Day Art Contest for a chance to win $100. Entry forms and contest rules are available at the Phelan Pinon Hills CSD office or online at pphcsd.org/events. Submissions must be received by May 30, 2026. Looking ahead, the district will launch its Kids Summer Activities program beginning June 5 through August 20. Planned offerings include archery, art and painting, baking, and Movies in the Park. More information will be provided in the June issue of NewsPlus.
