The Phelan-Pinon Hills Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) is offering a free three-day basic training disaster preparedness course beginning Friday, May 2, from 5 to 9 p.m. and on Saturday, May 3, and May 10, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The classes will be held at the Phelan Community Center, located at 4128 Warbler Road in Phelan.
The purpose of the training is to help attendees prepare for natural disasters and learn how to care for themselves and their families during a disaster. The training is completely free of charge and open to anyone who is at least 18 years old and can attend all sessions to get certified.
According to Bonnie Butler, admin of Phelan-Pinon Hills CERT, attendees will learn valuable skills such as fire safety, search and rescue, medical operations, and team organization. Butler encourages everyone to take advantage of this opportunity to prepare for emergencies before they occur.
