Spring has sprung in Wrightwood, and so have the events in town. On Saturday, May 4th, the Wrightwood Community Arts Center will host a Spring Open House event from 12:00 pm to 4:00 pm. This free, family-friendly event will offer fun activities while showcasing beautiful works of art from local and regional artists.
A featured art exhibit will be on display to showcase work from exceptional California artists who’ve had the opportunity to lead art assemblies at Wrightwood Elementary and teach students about art in connection with environmental stewardship. The featured contemporary artists include ceramic artist and sculptor Mary Duman, Indigenous visual artist Dalila Paola Mendez, interdisciplinary artist and writer Renee Reizman, and Serbian visual artist Vojislav Radovanovic. The collaborative exhibition will be on display at the Arts Center throughout May. Their enticing works of art will highlight nature along with key themes of home, history, narrative, and community.
The Open House will also feature a pop-up market featuring local artists, where you can shop and peruse their creations. Fun art activities will be offered throughout the day, and a few local organizations will be in attendance as well, like face painting by I Dyed and live music from local Tri-Community band B.O.B., who will be performing their unique take on rock, blues, jazz, and country music classics.
The Spring Open House is an opportunity for the community to come together to celebrate and support the arts. Over the last two years, the Wrightwood Arts Center has run a successful art and wine festival, but for this year, the organization decided to scale down the event to highlight the new arts center and gallery by offering a more community-forward experience.
The goal is to refocus the organization’s time and effort on providing more consistent art experiences throughout the year, as opposed to a single art event offered only once a year. In fact, the organization is already planning its next big event, a Summer Soire on Friday, August 2nd. More event details and ticket information will be coming soon.
W.A.C.’s partnership with local non-profit Drawing Together has allowed the Community Arts Center to become a sustainable creative space. The center offers regular weekly art classes for children and teens and rotating monthly art workshops for adults.
W.A.C. and Drawing Together invite locals to support the arts and experience the many benefits that art brings to our lives, which include improving our well-being and strengthening our communities. Attend the Open House to learn about how you can support our local Community Art Center & Gallery either by signing up your kids for weekly scheduled art classes, attending one of the creative art workshops being offered in May, or purchasing a membership to become an official member of the Wrightwood Arts Center.
Most importantly, support local artists by buying local art. A variety of artistic creations are always on display and available to purchase inside the arts center. Peruse art at the event or visit them anytime throughout the year during their regular business hours at 6045 Park Drive in Wrightwood. They are open Wednesday 2:00 pm-4:00 pm, Thursday 12:00 pm-4:00 pm, Friday 2:00 pm-5:00 pm, Saturday 12:00 pm-4:00 pm, and Sunday 12:00 pm-3:00 pm.
