A beloved local Pinon Mesa school teacher and former Army Medic, dedicated to co-running a non-profit called Rover Ranger Rescue and having made a significant difference in our community through her commitment to education, her country, and her passion for rescuing dogs, now needs her community’s help.
Sadly, Corina Weimer will soon start radiation treatment, then in 4 weeks she will start immunotherapy ot treat lesions located on her cerebellum, and a tumor on her lung that has required her to undergo surgery. As a result, she must focus on her recovery and is unable to care for her rescue dogs during this challenging period.
During healing, she has taken time away from the animals she cares for; therefore, placement is urgently needed for her geriatric dogs. In addition, financial donations are vital to continue supporting the many dogs currently in foster care as part of their rescue efforts.
Kathy Chavez, Cornia’s rescue partner, explained, “She has just been diagnosed with cancer and will be laid up for a while. We do still need fosters for a few of the dogs; some of these dogs are not adoptable and are in their twilight years. Is there anyone out there willing to take in a senior dog? We have a few here that could do with a soft place to land. We do our best to match our foster dogs with potential new homes, whether it be a long-term foster or a temporary placement, so they get the attention and love they so deserve. The needs of foster dogs are covered by the rescue food, vet appointments, and the like. So please, please consider being a foster for us. Thank you to everyone who has already stepped up to help. You have no idea how much you are appreciated.”
Cornia said, “I have been doing dog rescue for 10 years, 7 years with last Call K9 and 3 years of our own Rover Ranger Rescue. I’m not good at having attention on me. I rescue because it comes from my heart not what I get in return, just knowing is enough. The people who thought of me, prayed for me, took up where I couldn’t, made me laugh, sent me pics of my adopted dogs, my neighbors, family, friends, students are all I need. Our town of Wrightwood has been hit hard, and it just keeps giving back! How lucky I am to live there. Thank everyone for the most amazing support that has made me cry several times. Also, I can’t thank my rescue partner Kathy enough for taking my weight as they normally run the Rover Ranger Rescue together.
Corina was an Army Medic in the Army Reserve during Desert Storm. Later, she worked on an ambulance for 8 years as an EMT. She has been teaching for 29 years, 12 years at Pinon Mesa Middle School, where she is currently teaching, but is now on sick leave. She also taught at Phelan Elementary for 9 years and Vista Verde for 8 years.
If you would like to help, consider picking up a Costco Kirkland maroon bag of dog food, fostering a dog or adopting a dog from this rescue. Zelle donations are also appreciated and can be sent to [email protected]. You may also provide meals during Corina’s recovery by using Door Dash. Kathy Chavez can be reached at 909 730 4274.
