The Wrightwood Branch Library officially celebrated its Grand Reopening on Monday, June 8, welcoming community members, local officials, library staff, and children to tour the newly renovated facility.
The library closed in March to undergo a series of upgrades designed to enhance the visitor experience. Improvements included new carpeting, fresh paint, updated fixtures, improved shelving, and comfortable new furniture throughout the building. The renovations have transformed the library into a brighter, more inviting space for reading, studying, learning, and community engagement.

In addition to the county-funded renovations, the Wrightwood Friends of the Library purchased new children’s computer workstations, expanding educational and technological opportunities for young library visitors. The new AWE Learning computers are specifically designed for children ages 2 to 12 and feature educational games and activities that support early literacy, STREAM learning, language development, and problem-solving skills.

Unlike traditional computers, the AWE Learning stations operate without internet access, creating a safe, child-friendly environment free from advertisements, external browsing, and data collection. The systems provide access to hundreds of educational activities while allowing children to learn independently in a secure setting.
During the reopening ceremony, San Bernardino County Librarian Melanie Orosco highlighted the significance of the project and the role the library plays within the mountain community.

“Today we celebrate more than the completion of our remodeling project. We celebrate a renewed investment in our community and in the people who use this library every day,” said Orosco. “Libraries are more than buildings filled with books. They are community gathering places, centers for lifelong learning, and gateways to opportunity.”

Orosco thanked the San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors, Project and Facilities Management Department, library leadership, and local staff for helping bring the renovation project to completion. She also recognized representatives from Senator Suzette Valladares’ office and First District Supervisor Paul Cook’s office who attended the celebration and presented the staff with recognition awards.

The county librarian noted that every improvement was made with library patrons in mind, creating a more accessible and welcoming environment for visitors of all ages. The children’s area of the library now includes rolling bookcases that can be easily moved to create more open space for hosting events. In addition to their new chairs and desks, there are also bright, colorful floor cushions that children can use during weekly story time programs. The new reopening comes at an ideal time as the library prepares to host its widely popular Summer Reading Program, which includes performances from magicians to visits with wild animals.

“By updating this library, we are ensuring that Wrightwood residents have a comfortable, inspiring space where people of all ages can learn, explore, create, and connect,” Orosco said.
Although there are many new changes, the library still offers some of the same great resources such as a computer lab, copier and printer and the Wrightwood Friends of the Library Bookstore, where patrons can purchase used books with proceeds benefiting library programs and new equipment, like the new children’s AWE Learning stations.

Following the ribbon-cutting ceremony, guests were invited to explore the renovated facility, including the new children’s technology area, meet library staff, and learn more about upcoming programs and activities.
With its refreshed appearance, upgraded amenities, and new educational technology funded by the Wrightwood Friends of the Library, the Wrightwood Branch Library is ready to serve residents for years to come, continuing its mission of providing educational resources, lifelong learning opportunities, and a welcoming gathering place for the community.
