At about 2:10 pm, today, October 5, 2020, a fire called the Swarthout Fire was reported in the Cajon Pass, near Cajon Blvd & Keenbrook Rd. 1st unit is on the scene. It has burned about 1 acre and is burning in heavy fuels with a moderate-rapid rate of spread. The first unit on the scene has requested a 2nd alarm, 2 choppers, and 2 fixed-wing aircraft. 10/5/2020 @ 3:15 PM: Looks like they are wrapping things up. Fire is holding at 7-10 acres. Cancelled any engines not already on scene. Keeping water tenders and 2 crews on scene with choppers assisting.
10/5/2020 @4:30 PM: SBNF Updated on the Swarthout Fire: “Hand crews and engine’s are making progress on containment lines. Old Cajon Rd is closed from Kenwood on the south to Cleghorn Blvd. on the north.”
And traffic appears to be backed up on the I-15 northbound in the Cajon Pass
10/5/20 @ 6:15 PM: From SBNF: 4 Acres, 75% Contained. Crews and equipment will remain in the area overnight building containment line and monitoring hot spots. Please use caution when driving in the area. Old Cajon Rd is open in both directions.
