The San Bernardino National Forest announced that they are temporarily closing forest system roads to motor vehicles due to the winter storms in February and March that brought significant snowfall. The closures are effective from March 18th through June 30th, 2023.
According to an email released from the Forest Service explaining their decision, “District staff is currently working to determine to what extent damage has occurred, or if other obstacles, such as severe erosion cuts, rockslides, tree blowdown, etc. have impacted forest roads and infrastructure. These unknown obstacles are currently hidden under the blanket of deep snow. Due to the diligent efforts of Forest Service staff and many others, however, certain NFS Roads across the Forest have been cleared and can reopen, and we are seeking to make as much of the Forest once again accessible to visitors as possible.”
As of today, there are several forest roads in the Cajon Pass off the I-15, Hwy- 138, and Lone Pine Canyon that are affected by these closures, including:
Forest Road 2N47
Forest Road 2N58
Forest Road 3N06
Forest Road 3N06A
Forest Road 3N06B
Forest Road 3N06C
Forest Road 3N22
Forest Road 3N28
Forest Road 3N29
Forest Road 3N31Y
Forest Road 3N31YA
Forest Road 3N33
