National Prescription Drug Take Back Day is Saturday, October 29th from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. and is a bi-annual event to promote public health and safety by encouraging everyone to drop off their unwanted and/or expired prescription and over-the-counter medications at a secure drug drop box.
National Prescription Drug Take Back Day reflects the Drug Enforcement Administration’s commitment to Americans’ safety and health, encouraging the public to remove unneeded medications from their homes as a measure of preventing medication misuse and opioid addiction from ever starting.
Doing so helps to prevent prescription drug abuse or misuse, unintended poisoning and environmental pollution. More than 721,000 pounds of unwanted and/or expired prescriptions were safely collected and destroyed during the previous National Prescription Drug Take Back Day in April 2022.
