At approximately midnight on January 23rd, 2024, deputies received a call about a man who was trespassing onto a property located on the 13000 block of Avenal Street in Victorville.

Once authorities arrived at the scene, they found the male suspect, who was identified as 26-year-old Maxwell Nelson, of Phelan, attempting to take a dog belonging to the resident of the house. Deputies learned that the dog owner had confronted Nelson, which led to a verbal dispute. While Nelson refused to give the dog back, he pointed a pistol at the dog owner.

Maxwell Nelson was then arrested for Assault with a Deadly weapon and was booked at High Desert Detention Center, where he is currently being held in lieu of $140,000.00 bail.
