Now that July is here, that means the 61st Mountaineer Days is just around the corner. This year’s event will be held July 12–13, Saturday and Sunday, and is hosted by the Wrightwood Chamber of Commerce. The old-fashioned family festivities kick off Saturday, July 12, with an opening ceremony at 10:30 a.m. and a live show featuring Western Gunfighters and CanCan Girls. The Wrightwoodian of the Year and the Honorary Mayor will also be announced. Also Saturday morning, the Pine Needles Quilt Guild Auction will be held.
Families can look forward to two days packed with hometown fun. This year’s parade, “Home of the Yeti,” is on Sunday at 1 p.m. There’s fun and activities throughout the weekend for all ages, including a beer garden and adult casino games, a live band, a Kid’s Fun Zone with pony rides, a petting zoo, reptiles, a mechanical bull, panning for gold, a dunk tank, axe throwing for kids, and more kids’ games. There will also be family games and contests to entertain everyone. Wrightwood’s shops, restaurants, vendors and food trucks will be open throughout the village for browsing and dining.
The Hometown Parade is open to groups or individuals, with categories including floats, walking groups, vintage cars, equestrian entries, and children’s entries for ages 12 and under. There is no fee to participate, but all parade participants must submit an application online.
