On May 11, 2024, the Tri-Community 5K Fiesta brought together hundreds of participants at Serrano High School for a day of fun, fitness, and philanthropy. Organized by the Tri-Community Kiwanis and the Phelan Chamber of Commerce, the event aimed to raise $6,000 for local scholarship programs benefiting Snowline Unified School District seniors and the Miss Phelan Queen Scholarship.
The competitive race saw outstanding performances across all divisions. Jackson Kim led the Teen division (ages 13-18) with a time of 21:11, claiming the overall fastest time, followed by Joshua Rochin at 24:42 and Joshua Needham at 25:28. In the Adult division (ages 19 and up), Wyatt Bates triumphed with a time of 21:37, while Ethan Lavoie finished at 22:47 and Sergio Gramajo at 23:37. Among the Youth (ages 12 and below), Ruben Avalos Torres topped the charts with a time of 29:46, closely followed by Leo Munoz at 29:47 and Angelina Genova at 54:05. Samantha Rochin and Caelyn Brown also delivered notable performances in their respective categories.

The fiesta was more than just a race; it was a community celebration. Families, friends, and local businesses came together, highlighting the support the the Tri-Community gives to its local service organizations. The event also featured a non-competitive walk-run in which several participants too part in.
Volunteers from the Serrano Key, Club, Meredith Plumbing, Tri-Community Kiwansis, and the Phelan Chamber of Comnmerce played a huge role in the success of the 5K Fiesta, assisting with setup, registration, and course management. Their dedication underscored the community’s commitment to supporting the youth of our community.

The Tri-Community 5K Fiesta, while coming close to reaching thier goal produced a great first time event that inspired a renewed sense of community pride in those who participated in the days event. Plans are already underway for next year’s event, promising an even larger and more impactful annual event.
