Wrightwood’s annual Chili Cook-Off and Salsa Competition will be held Saturday, Oct. 12, 2024, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Festivities will take place at the Wrightwood Community Building and parking lot located at 1275 Hwy 2 off Park Drive.
The event is co-sponsored by Y102, Kat Country, Fox 106.5, Talk 960, HD 96.3, and LAX. Organizers are still looking for chili and salsa contestants. Chili contestants must sign up by Oct. 5, 2024, while salsa contestants can register online up to the day of the event. Both sign-ups are available at wrightwoodchamber.org.
The day’s activities will also feature a jalapeño eating contest at 1:30 p.m., chili and salsa sampling, live music, merchandise vendors, and the Chamber’s 50/50 opportunity drawing. Awards for chili, salsa, and jalapeño contests will be held at Vivian Null Park at 2 p.m. You’ll have the opportunity to vote for your favorite sampling with the purchase of a chili or salsa tasting kit. Kits will be available for purchase beginning at 11 a.m. Chili tasting kits are $10 and include sampling from all contestants—from noon until it’s gone. Salsa kits are $5 and include entry to the tasting room—from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Come early to purchase your kit before the samples run out.
To end the day, awards will be presented at Vivian Null Park at 2 p.m. Chili awards will go to the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and People’s Choice winners, along with the salsa contest awards. The jalapeño eating contest winner will be announced at 1:30 p.m. There is no charge to enter the jalapeño eating contest. The Chili Cook-Off is hosted by the Wrightwood Chamber of Commerce. When you’re done tasting chili and salsa, take a stroll around the Village; you just might see a jeep or two as you’re exploring all of the great shops downtown.
