Don’t miss the chance to hear exceptional music on Saturday, April 6th, in Wrightwood. For one night only, an impressive group of talented musicians will perform a concert in the Wrightwood Community Building.
The show will offer an array of musical styles, including classical, broadway, swing, and jazz, led by classically trained pianist and Wrightwood resident Rodger Whitten. With a doctorate in classical piano performance, Rodger has been making music for over 50 years. He has an impressive resume, including serving as the conductor for the Swiss Choir in LA. Locally, you may have already seen him perform at such events as The Wrightwood Senior Follies and the Wrightwood Blues Christmas Show.
“I saw him perform and I just thought we need a program encompassing the whole musical style,” said prominent Wrightwood resident Rita Bemus, who helped to coordinate the event and bring it to the big stage.
Rodger loves performing for his community but also wanted to highlight other musicians during the performance as well. “Being a classical pianist is too lonely; I like to play with people,” said Rodger. His exceptional talent has led him to connect with other all-star musicians in town, many of whom have their own impressive resumes and will be sharing the stage at the event. Performers will include Rodger Whitten on piano, Craig Kupka on Trombone, John Bircher on saxophone, Toby Williams on drums, and Leroy Speaks on bass. The show will also include classical violinist, Jingyu Lou, showcasing movie tunes and classical music.
The performance is titled An Afternoon with Rodger & Friends and will take place at the Wrightwood Community Center, 1275 Hwy 2 in Wrightwood, on Saturday, April 6th, from 4:00 pm-6:00 pm. Tickets for the event are $25 per person or $20 for kids 16 and under. Seating is limited, so buy your tickets early by contacting Rita Bemis at [email protected] or (562) 760-4787.
