A Charter was granted from the Boy Scouts of America to the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) to Tri-Community Post 9415 on December 31, 2023, to allow use of the facilities for official Boy Scout Troop 351 meetings and operations.

VFW 9415 Post Commander Mike Bazylak and Boy Scout Troop Master Kevin “Scotty” Scott secured the arrangement with the Boys Scouts of America after their previous charter was discontinued. A nonprofit organization for past and present American service members, VFW Post 9415 in Phelan is a great place to inspire confidence and good character.

Being a hallowed gathering place of our veteran heroes, the post will now provide a headquarters for the resolute young Boy Scouts of Wrightwood, Phelan, and Pinon Hills. The facilities will also house Cub Scout Pack 351, giving the Den leaders and Den Mothers ample room for the younger scouts to learn new skills indoors and out. “Be Prepared” is the Boy Scout motto. VFW post 9415 is here to help. Since the beginning of the new charter, Boy Scout Troop 351 has spawned two Eagle Scout projects and a new “Venturing Crew” for older scouts aged 14 to 20.

Chartered by Congress on June 15, 1916, The Boy Scouts of America has launched many young men into rewarding lives. The life lessons learned in scouting are a tremendous skill set to possess in today’s modern world. From Cub Scout to Eagle Scout, the journey of today’s scout is memorable and fulfilling. The Scout Masters are authorized representatives of the Boy Scout organization who teach character development, citizenship training, leadership, and mental and physical fitness.

Troop 351 Tenderfoot Shomair Nance had the conn at the second of two bi-monthly Scout meetings in October, leading off the meeting of parents and Scoutmasters. Looking sharp in his Boy Scouts of America uniform, he took command of the podium, speaking clearly and firmly, showing off his leadership qualities with the “Pledge of Allegiance,” the Oath for Unison, the Scout Laws, and the Outdoor Code. His Scouting journey will take Shormair from Tenderfoot to Second Class, First Class, Star, Life, and finally Eagle Scout.

VFW Post 9415 has welcomed the services of the scouts over the past years, performing American flag retirements and other solemn tasks.

Cub Scouts is a program for kindergarten through fifth-grade children, and Boy Scouting is for children from fifth grade to eleven years old. The new “Venturing Crew” has been given the number “9415” in honor of the new charter organization, VFW Post 9415. To be a scout, go to the BeAScout website and select a scouting unit near you.

Now Boy Scout Troop 351 is “All aboard,” preparing VFW Post 9415 for events like Veteran’s and Memorial Days, which require plenty of “All hands, on deck!” VFW Post 9415 has welcomed the services of the scouts over the past years, performing American flag retirements and other solemn tasks. The pageantry of the various flag-raising ceremonies and parades requires plenty of community involvement by the Cub and Boy Scouts. Their presence is essential to the Tri-Community of Wrightwood, Phelan, and Pinon Hills.

With Veteran’s Day activities around the bend in November, Troop 351 has already planned a pre-event cleanup of their new headquarters, including the grounds and meeting hall. VFW Post 9415 is located at 4892 Nielson Rd. Phelan, CA 92371. (760) 868-1999
