Band leader and Wrightwood local, Craig Kupka brought the talented musicians together for one night of superb jazz and swing music with the Kupkasonic Band at the Wrightwood Place

The Wrightwood Property Owners Association hosted The Big Band Bash on Saturday, May 11th, at The Wrightwood Place. This is the second year the event has been offered, and it is a local favorite filled with food, music, and dancing.

The Kupkasonic Band permeated the stage and performed big band music from the 30’s and 40’s. Band leader and Wrightwood local Craig Kupka brought the talented musicians together for one night of superb jazz and swing music. Craig is a renowned trombonist and has an impressive resume of performing with jazz legends such as Dizzy Gillespie, Stan Kenton, and Ray Brown. The Kupkasonic band delighted the audience by performing songs by Duke Ellington, Ella Fitzgerald, Benny Goodman, and more, which had the crowd dancing well into the night. They also had the crowd singing along to a jazz rendition of “Yankee Doodle Dandy.”

An optional Tri-Tip sandwich dinner was prepared by the Grizzly Cafe, and a 50/50 opportunity drawing was offered to attendees. There was also an impressive array of baskets on display for the silent auction. Some popular gift baskets included movie tickets, wine tasting, and therapy massages. All proceeds from the silent auction and The Big Band Bash will help to support various community activities and programs in Wrightwood.

The Wrightwood Property Owners Association advocates and sponsors many projects throughout the year. Some of their most recent projects include helping to maintain the Wrightwood Village Trail and purchasing lights and decorations for the Nights of Lights Luminaries walk during the holidays, raising funds for new equipment for the Wrightwood CSD Parks & Recreation dance classes, and coordinating candy donations for local businesses to hand out during Halloween. Plus, the organization offers scholarships for Serrano students and advocates for issues that affect the Wrightwood Community.

The Wrightwood Property Owners Association meets on the second Wednesday of each month. The next meeting is on Wednesday, June 12th, at 6:00 p.m. in the Wrightwood Community Building.
