The Phelan Chamber of Commerce’s Angel Tree event made giving to family’s at Christmas a big success!.
This annual event, one of a few Tri-Community holiday traditions that weren’t canceled because of the coronavirus pandemic, was a fabulous way for people and businesses to give to families this year at Christmas. Angel Trees were placed in locations throughout the community to collect gifts for children. Several community members grabbed an angel tag off the tree, bought a gift or two from the list, and dropped them off at one of the Angel Tree locations. Others made monetary donations at the Phelan Chamber of Commerce website which was used to purchase additional gifts so that every Angel received something.
Many also participated in the Spark of Love Toy Drive and Fill the Boot event held outside Rite Aid on Sunday, December 13th. It was a huge help as well. Many donated money and toys which were divided up amongst the Tri-Community Toy Box, Spark of Love, and the Tri-Community Angel Tree. The Miss Phelan Court were in attendance alongside firefights collecting new unwrapped gifts and cash in the fire boots.
On December 19th, twenty-nine families arrived at Pinon Mesa Middle School for a drive-thru gift pick-up. Santa made a special trip from the North Pole to help handout gifts alongside the Phelan Chamber Directors and the Miss Phelan Court. The queens helped Santa load each vehicle with bags of toys and gifts. Each family also received a large basket of fresh food packed with red apples and sweet pears, celery, zucchini, and much more from the Snowline Nutritional Services Department crew. And, courtesy of the members of the Hillside Church, each family received all the fixings for a complete Christmas dinner.
