The San Bernardino County Library’s annual Summer Reading Program, themed “A Tale of Enchantment,” will continue through Aug. 3 at the Phelan and Wrightwood branches. The program offers free events and reading incentives for all ages.
Readers can begin by registering online through Beanstack and then picking up registration materials at their local branch. Based on their age group—Library Beginners (ages 0–5) through Adults (18 and older)—participants will choose a reading goal measured in books, pages or minutes. Once a tracking method is selected, it will remain consistent throughout the program.
Each branch will host a series of weekly events designed to entertain and educate. At Phelan Library, the lineup begins Tuesday, July 1, at 4 p.m. with Mark Griffiths’ Ventriloquist Show. On Tuesday, July 8, at 4 p.m., the Michael Rayner Juggling Show. Tuesday, July 15, at 4 p.m., Pacific Animal Productions. Tuesday, July 22, at 4 p.m., Chazz with African music, martial arts and comedy. The final July event, Bretto the Great, will take place Tuesday, July 29, at 4 p.m.—exciting magic and comedy with audience participation. Special crafts and stories for all ages are on Wednesdays at 4 p.m. Crafts only are on Thursdays at 4 p.m.
At Wrightwood Library, programming starts Tuesday, July 1, with the Joe Grandelman Show at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 8, at 2 p.m., Pacific Animal Productions. On Saturday during Mountaineer Days, Wrightwood Library is holding a Lego Challenge—building and playing with Legos. Tuesday, July 15, at 2 p.m., Arty Loon with magic and fun. Thursday, July 24, at 4 p.m., the Michael Rayner Juggling Show. The month concludes with Wildlife Adventure Time on Tuesday, July 29, at 2 p.m.—learn the habitats of wild animals. Special crafts for all ages are on Thursdays at 4 p.m. Beginners (ages 0–5) Book & Crafts only are on Thursday, July 31, at 4 p.m.
