The 279th Battalion at Serrano High School is pleased to announce that C/MAJ Briete Nance has written her first successful grant. She was awarded $2,000 by the local water district to begin construction on her project for the upcoming school year. Her project is entitled the “Commander’s Field Training Garden”. Her vision is to have an area on campus that can be used as a survival training area for the 279th cadets and other Serrano students. Her plans for the training garden include but are not limited to a rainwater collection system, planting of plants that can be used in survival situations such as yucca and aloe vera, and a solar powered creek for water purification lessons. C/MAJ Nance is attending a week long survival skills training at Camp San Luis Obispo in just a few days with the hopes of earning her red beret. Upon her return, C/Maj Nance will eagerly begin work on the project to see her vision through.
