At approximately 10:40 am, the USGS registered a Magnitude 5.8 Earthquake. The epicenter was approximately 15 miles south of Lone Pine and north of Olancha in the Owens Valley at a depth of 2.9 km. At about 10:50 am I received an Emergency Alert on my phone with the following message: Earthquake! Expect shaking. Drop, Cover, Hold On. Protect yourself now. -USGS ShakeAlert” I did not feel any shaking, just north of downtown Phelan.

USGS M 5.8 Earthquake – Lone Pine

At 10:59 am a magnitude 4.4 earthquake struck in the same area. Most likely, these are aftershocks from the Ridgecrest earthquakes of M 5.4 and M 7.1 that took place almost a year ago on July 5, 2019.
