How to apply for a permit, the new 2024 regulations & the cost for a CCW license
The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department is issuing concealed carry weapon permits to qualifying county residents. The CCW permit will authorize a private person to carry a concealed firearm in public under California law.
To qualify for this permit, you must be a full-time resident of San Bernardino County and own a California-registered gun. Applicants must be at least 21 years of age with no open criminal cases, active probations, or felony convictions. If approved, permit holders must complete a mandatory 16-hour firearms safety and training course. Anyone renewing their CCW will be required to take an 8-hour training course. The application fee is $158.60 for a new license, a $126.40 issuance fee (once approved) and a $112 range fee.
The new age limit (previously 18+), background check, and increased training courses are part of CA Senate Bill 2, a bill signed into law by Governor Gavin Newsom in September 2023 and went into effect on January 1st, 2024. A portion of the bill would also have prohibited Californians from carrying firearms (even those with a CCW) in sensitive public places such as government buildings, schools, medical facilities, public transit, places of worship, parks, and playgrounds. But, a new court appeal on January 6th, 2024, dissolved the gun restrictions in the previously listed public places since it violates the Second Amendment.
