As fall settles in and the weather turns crisp, local libraries are inviting the community to enjoy a season full of books, crafts and Halloween cheer. From book sales to spooky workshops, there’s something for every reader and reveler this October.
PHELAN LIBRARY
Looking for new books to cozy up with this winter? Stop by the Phelan Memorial Library on Saturday, Oct. 18, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. for the Fill a Bag for $5 Book Sale.
The sale will be held both inside the bookstore and outside in front of the library. Shoppers can bring their own bag or use one provided, then fill it with as many books as they can for just $5. The selection includes fiction, nonfiction, children’s books, cookbooks, biographies, mysteries and more.
Inside the library’s program room, specialty and vintage books will also be available, priced individually based on rarity or condition. This section is ideal for collectors or readers looking for unique finds. All proceeds from the sale support the library’s programs, including children’s activities, adult workshops and community events.
The event is organized by the Phelan Friends of the Library, a volunteer group that raises funds and promotes library services. Information about becoming a member will be available during the sale for anyone interested in supporting the library year-round.
Book donations are also being accepted at the library during regular business hours until the event. Donors are asked to limit contributions to two boxes at a time. The Phelan Memorial Library is located at 9800 Clovis Road, across from the Phelan Post Office.
To get into the Halloween spirit, at 2 p.m. on Oct. 18, families are invited to a Monster Mayhem event, a free Halloween-themed celebration for kids. Costumes are encouraged—whether spooky or sweet—with games, crafts, prizes and more. A spooky celebration is what’s in store!
WRIGHTWOOD LIBRARY
Wrightwood Library is also joining in the Halloween fun with events for kids and adults.
Spooky Slime Time will be held Thursday, Oct. 9, at 4 p.m. Kids can create their own slime with a Halloween twist. All materials are provided, and participants will leave with a batch of homemade slime to take home.
For adults, a Halloween craft workshop will take place Saturday, Oct. 18, at 1 p.m. Participants will learn how to create their very own wickedly delicious potions and brews inspired by iconic villains. The project is designed to be fun and beginner-friendly, with all supplies provided.
The Wrightwood Library is located at 6011 Pine St. in Wrightwood.
Whether you’re stocking up on winter reads or diving into Halloween fun, your local libraries have something special planned. Don’t miss out on the festivities this October!
