When Deputy Delano activated his overhead lights, the driver made a sharp turn up an embankment. The driver of the vehicle, later identified as 63 year-old Charles Smith of El Mirage, threw a small black object out the passenger side window of the vehicle. Smith came to a stop approximately 100 yards later where he discarded another item out the window.

Deputies located 72 grams of methamphetamine along with a loaded .38 caliber revolver which Smith had thrown from his vehicle window. Charles Smith was arrested and booked at High Desert Detention Center where he is currently being held without bail.
