The public is invited to attend an upcoming art and advocacy exhibition at the Community Art Center and Gallery in Wrightwood on Saturday, May 3, from 2 to 4 p.m. The show culminates a seven-month-long partnership between Transition Habitat Conservancy, Drawing Together, and several local and regional artists. The project is grant-funded and made possible by the Conservation Lands Foundation.
The exhibition will feature artworks created during a series of workshops held over the past several months. Highlights include a collaborative painting inspired by stories told by storyteller Vlatka Herzberg, participants’ paintings of an endangered animals workshop led by artist Chelsea Brummet, and nature-themed pieces made with plant-based dyes under the guidance of artist Maddy Toliver.
Also displayed will be fabric swatches dyed using Indigenous methods and materials in a workshop led by artist Michelle Glass. Nature journaling techniques, taught by artist Shannon LaBounty in March, will also be represented. Works by Scribbles Collective will round out the exhibition.
The Art & Advocacy exhibition will run through May 25 and can be viewed during regular gallery hours from Friday through Sunday, noon to 5 p.m at 6045 Park Dr. in Wrightwood.
The next exhibition at the Community Art Center will open on Saturday, May 31, from 5 to 7 p.m., and will include a 6 p.m. artist talk featuring the work of Colleen Sparlin. This event is free and open to the public.
