A 41-year-old convicted felon faces multiple charges after allegedly abusing his elderly mother and manufacturing illegal weapons in their Phelan home. David Dimmick was arrested Tuesday following an incident involving his 71-year-old mother.
The ordeal began around 6:13 a.m. on June 18, 2024, when the victim, bearing visible injuries, sought help by calling the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Phelan Sub-Station. Deputies learned that Dimmick allegedly assaulted his mother at their shared residence in the 11700 block of El Esteban. During the attack, the victim managed to escape, but Dimmick reportedly caught her, forced her into a car, and continued the assault. Prior to the incident, witnesses reported seeing Dimmick firing an assault rifle outside his home.
Authorities quickly obtained an arrest warrant for Dimmick, who was apprehended at his residence without incident. A subsequent search warrant executed at 9:53 a.m. revealed a large cache of weapons and illegal manufacturing operations. Deputies discovered multiple firearms, including two AR-15 semi-automatic rifles, one of which lacked a serial number. They also found Polymer Glock pistol lowers in various stages of production and a semi-automatic handgun without a serial number.
Investigators determined that Dimmick, prohibited from possessing firearms due to his felony conviction, was using a 3D printer to manufacture handguns. The search also yielded large quantities of ammunition and high-capacity magazines, including a 100-round drum. In addition to the weapons, deputies uncovered a Butane Honey Oil Lab on the premises, indicating the manufacture of concentrated cannabis products.
Dimmick now faces charges including kidnapping, elder abuse, manufacturing of a controlled substance, false imprisonment, willful discharge of a firearm with gross negligence, illegal possession of an assault weapon, manufacturing of a large capacity magazine, manufacturing of an undetected firearm, felon in possession of a firearm, felon in possession of ammunition, and possession of an illegal assault weapon.
He is currently held at the High Desert Detention Center with bail set at $1.2 million. Deputy J. Ballinger of the Victor Valley Sheriff’s Station is leading the ongoing investigation.
