The pair of eagles that have made Big Bear Valley their home are back. They, Shadow & Jackie, have been prepping their nest for the past several months. Many times a day they bring in twigs and sticks to the nest and each time they rearrange their nest. On January 6th egg #1 was laid followed by egg #2 on January 9th and egg #3 on January 13th. Unfortunately eggs #1 and #2 were preyed on by ravens. Egg #3 some how was broken during the laying process. In late January during the rain and snow they were still visiting the nest and prepping it, hopefully, for their next clutch. It is early in the breeding season so there is still a chance Jackie can lay a 2nd clutch in a month or two, though it is not guaranteed.
The observation of Shadow and Jackie can be followed thanks to the Friends of Big Bear Valley. The live Eagle camera and sound system is solar powered and runs live stream—available to watch 24/7. Visit their website: http://friendsofbigbearvalley.org
Right: JAN 14, 2021 FROM THE WEBSITE: We are very sad to report that egg #2 was preyed on by ravens this afternoon. The eagles have clearly been focused on something else, we will never know what that may be. The egg having little incubation time was not likely to hatch. friendsofbigbearvalley.org
