APPLE VALLEY. Calif. The Apple Valley High School Sun Devils defeated Serrano High School on September 30th, marking the Diamondback’s first loss in Mojave River League play. The Sun Devils ended up crushing the Diamondbacks 47-13.
Apple Valley was able to get on the scoreboard first and closed out the first quarter ahead 6-0. After that, the game was never that close again. The Sun Devils defense had two takeaways in the first half while holding Serrano to zero points. The second quarter ended with a score of 26-0.
In the third quarter, Serrano showed some signs of improvement when quarterback Payton Cornell connected with receiver Tanner Chaffee for a 44-yard touchdown. But in the end, it was simply not enough.
Despite being behind the entire contest, Serrano’s passing game went 3/8 for 50 yards and one touchdown. On the ground, they had 24 carries for 114 yards. Cornell led in rushing with ten carries for 77 yards.
On Apple Valley’s side, quarterback Jayden Max Denegal went 25/30 and had 325 yards passing and five touchdowns. In the rushing game, they had 29 carries for 152 yards. Following this victory, the Sun Devils are now 4-2 for the season. Next week they play at home against Sultana.
After this loss, Serrano’s record is also 4-2. Next Thursday, they play an away game against Burroughs.
