This year’s Angeles Crest 100 Mile Endurance Run 2023 (AC100) has been canceled. The race normally begins in the Wrightwood Village at 5 am on Saturday morning and finishes the next day, Sunday, at 2 pm at the Loma Alta Park in Altadena, approximately 100 miles. The first annual Angeles Crest 100 Mile run was held in September 1986. Highway 2 is currently closed between Mt Wilson/Redbox Road and Grassy Hollow Campground (between Inspiration Point and Vincent Gap) and will remain closed until winter. According to Race Director Ken Hamada, he was able to contact the Caltrans engineers that are overseeing the repair of Highway 2 after the devastating winter storm that severely damaged that area of the highway. They do not anticipate that Highway 2 in that area will be open until this winter at the earliest. The section from Islip Saddle to Grassy Hollow will remain closed much longer. There are washouts, and much of the road is covered with rocks and boulders, some the size of a Volkswagen Beetle. This is typical of the damage that occurred due to the winter storm.
