The proposed Maverik fueling station in Piñon Hills remains in delay after the San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors voted on June 9 to continue the project’s appeal hearing until Aug. 4, 2026.
The decision marks the second time the Board of Supervisors has moved a final ruling on the controversial project, which leaves both supporters and opponents of the project awaiting a final decision.
The proposed development would be located near the intersection of Highway 138 and Oasis Road and include a 24-hour fueling station, convenience store, and truck fueling facilities.
The project has drawn significant opposition from Piñon Hills residents concerned about traffic, pollution, public safety, and the potential loss of the community’s rural character. Residents have argued that the project would bring increased truck traffic to local roads and negatively impact nearby homes.
The appeal reached the Board of Supervisors after the San Bernardino County Land Use Services Planning Commission voted to uphold approval of the project earlier this year. Opponents have continued to ask county officials to overturn that decision due to concerns over traffic congestion on Highway 138 and Oasis Road, particularly because vehicles entering and exiting the fueling station would use local roads near the Piñon Hills Post Office.
The Board of Supervisors is expected to continue the appeal hearing during its Aug. 4 meeting, where county officials will determine whether to uphold the Planning Commission’s approval of the project.
The Aug. 4 hearing is expected to take place at the San Bernardino County Government Center, 385 N. Arrowhead Ave. in San Bernardino. Members of the public may attend in person or submit comments to the Board of Supervisors through the county’s public comment process visit their website on how to participate at https://main.sbcounty.gov/county-meetings-events/
