The San Bernardino County Library’s annual Summer Reading Program, themed “A Tale of Enchantment,” will run from June 7 through Aug. 3 at the Phelan and Wrightwood branches. The program offers free events and reading incentives for all ages.
Readers can begin by registering online through Beanstack and then picking up registration materials at their local branch. Based on their age group—Library Beginners (ages 0–5) through Adults (18 and older)—participants will choose a reading goal measured in books, pages or minutes. Once a tracking method is selected, it will remain consistent throughout the program.
The Phelan Library will kick off the program on Saturday, June 7, from 2 to 3 p.m. with games and crafts.
Each branch will host a series of weekly events designed to entertain and educate. At Phelan Library, the lineup begins Tuesday, June 10, at 4 p.m. with Arty Loon’s Magic Show. On Tuesday, June 17, at 4 p.m., California Joe will present his Magical Journey Around the World. The final June event, Wildlife Adventure Time, will take place Tuesday, June 24, at 4 p.m., featuring lessons about wild animals and their habitats.
At Wrightwood Library, programming starts Tuesday, June 10, at 2 p.m. with the Mobile Zoo of Southern California, which will showcase exotic mammals, birds, reptiles, arachnids and barnyard animals. On Tuesday, June 17, at 2 p.m., the library will host Full Spectrum Bubble-ology, a science-based bubble show. The month concludes with magician David Skale on Tuesday, June 26, at 4 p.m. His performance includes comedy, audience participation and a live bunny.
