Stolen Truck Recovered, Two Arrested In Pinon Hills

Tri-Community NewsPlus

Two Tri-Community residents face charges after authorities found them in possession of a stolen truck on Monday. Lori Ballard, 60, of Pinon Hills, and Jeremiah Sizemore, 50, of Phelan, were arrested at 9:46 a.m. on Aug. 5 at a vacant property at the intersection of Buckwheat Road and Phelan Road in Pinon Hills.

Deputies responded to a call about unauthorized individuals with a camper and truck on the property. Upon arrival, they discovered Ballard and Sizemore, who the property owner confirmed were trespassing. The suspects were found with a 1998 Chevrolet truck reported stolen from Phelan in January 2024.

Ballard and Sizemore were arrested for possession of a stolen vehicle under California Penal Code 496D(A). They were booked at High Desert Detention Center, and bail was set at $30,000 each.

The incident highlights ongoing concerns about property crime in the area. Local authorities have been working to address trespassing and vehicle theft, which have been persistent problems in rural communities like Phelan and Pinon Hills.

The importance of community vigilance in combating crime by reporting incidents to the Sheriff’s Department cannot be overstated. Property owners and residents are strongly encouraged to promptly report any suspicious activity to law enforcement.

The stolen 1998 Chevrolet truck was missing for over seven months before it was found. This case highlights the difficulties law enforcement faces in tracking and recovering stolen vehicles, especially in sparsely populated areas where these crimes can go unnoticed for long periods of time.

The charges against Ballard and Sizemore fall under California Penal Code 496D(A), which specifically addresses the possession of stolen vehicles. If convicted, the suspects could face significant legal consequences, including fines and potential imprisonment.

As the investigation continues, authorities are seeking additional information that may shed light on the case. The community’s involvement in providing tips and leads is crucial to the success of such investigations.

Deputy K. Williams and Deputy O. Cordova from the Victor Valley Sheriff’s Station lead the ongoing investigation and can be reached at 760-552-6800. “Callers can remain anonymous and contact We-Tip at 800-78CRIME or www.wetip.com,” the sheriff’s office stated, encouraging residents to come forward with any relevant information.
