The Serrano High School Counseling Staff hosted a Senior Awards Night on Thursday, May 25th, at the John Hickey Performing Arts Center. A total of 58 Serrano Diamondback Seniors were recognized for their academic achievements and scholarship winnings. The event also honored students who have enlisted in the military and plan to serve after graduation.
Serrano Principal, Lisa Hansen, welcomed students and their families to this prestigious ceremony by saying, “This is my favorite community event.” Hansen mentioned how the assembly is able to bring the community together while also honoring students for all of their hard work and dedication throughout the years.

Superintendent Dr. Ryan Holman had the honor of presenting the Superintendent’s Honor Roll list, which includes students who received all A’s during their time at Serrano. The Top 10 Seniors were also honored with plaques for having the top GPA in their graduating class, and the 2023 Class Valedictorian, Shane Gage, was announced who holds the highest GPA and will be addressing his peers with a speech during the graduation ceremony taking place on Thursday, June 8th, 2023.
Several prominent clubs, organizations, and churches from around the Tri-Community were involved in the awards night and sponsored several scholarships. A few awards from the night included the Mt. High Resort Scholarship, Tri-Community Kiwanis Scholarship, Timberline Lions’ Club Scholarship, Joan Parsons Memorial Scholarship, Evergreen Lutheran Scholarship, and the Phelan Chamber of Commerce Scholarship.

The Snowline Schools and organizations presented their own scholarship awards as well, which included the Baldy Mesa Roadrunner Scholarship, Heritage School GEM Club Scholarship, Snowline Teachers Association Scholarship, Serrano FFA Scholarship, Serrano Choral Music Award Scholarship, and the Rattlesnake Regiment Scholarship.

Three Military Honorees were also recognized during Senior Awards Night. Senior Leilani Maydayag has enlisted in the National Guard, Luke Duarte, who graduated early and now serves in the U.S. Marines, and Brianna Hudson, who was given a jumbo check for $10,000 as a signing bonus for enlisting in the U.S. Navy.
Principal John Garner presented the final scholarship that night for the Wrightwood Elementary PTG Scholarship. He impressively addressed every Wrightwood Elementary alum on stage by name while giving a brief story for each student and reminiscing about their time at the school. At one point, he even recalled a funny t-shirt one student had worn on their first day of class. Garner reminded all the seniors that night that even though they are growing up and moving on, they will always have support from their teachers and educators, saying, “We never stop rooting for you.”
Congratulations to all the student recipients honored that night and to the 2023 graduating class of Serrano High School. We wish you all the best of luck and much success in your future endeavors!
