A recent Memorial Day Ceremony was held at the Wrightwood Veterans Memorial Park.

Following a well established tradition here in the Tri-Community Area, a moving tribute to our military Veterans will be held on Veterans Day, November 11th reports Allan Miller, President of the Wrightwood Veterans Memorial. Eight local Veterans will be honored during the ceremony, presented quilts by the Wrightwood Quilts of Valor group.

The ceremony begins exactly at 11 a.m. with the Veterans Honor Bell tolling out eleven bells, recalling the end of World War I that occurred at 11 a.m. on the 11th day of the 11th month, 1918.

Honor bricks being placed during the fall months will be recognized and two Honor Bricks will be placed for the military and civic commitment to Wrightwood that feature two of Wrightwood’s representative, Board members, on the San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors. Brad Mitzelfelt, who was responsible for acquiring the land and original build out while he was on the Board and current First District Supervisor Paul Cook, both Marine Veterans, will have Honor Bricks placed.

Recognizing the 250 birthdays of both the U.S. Navy and the United States Marines, Captain Tom Pinard will provide a short history of these two oldest branches of our nation’s military services.

Returning to provide support in a variety of ways will be the Soldiers from Ft. Irwin. Lt Robert Deaver, who has been a local resident of Wrightwood while serving at Ft. Irwin has encouraged his Soldiers to come to Wrightwood and donate countless hours of civic assistance, including at our Memorial Day and Veterans Day ceremonies. Robert has been re-assigned to a challenging tour that will take him east for a few years but he has set up Army personnel who will continue to work with the Veterans Memorial committee in Wrightwood, being an important part of our ceremonies.

The community is urged to attend our Veterans Day, Tuesday November 11th ceremony at the Wrightwood Veterans Memorial on Evergreen Road between Park Drive and Pine St in the Village Center.
