Wrightwood Elementary School, under the dedicated leadership of Principal John Garner, has launched several impactful initiatives to cultivate a spirit of community involvement among its students.
Throughout the month of May, celebrated as Animal Awareness Month, students engaged in meaningful activities aimed at supporting local pets in need. The Wrightwood Property Owners Association (WPOA) generously contributed an impressive array of supplies to aid this effort, including 15 comfortable dog and cat beds, 9 warm blankets for cuddly pets, 11 food bowls to ensure every animal has a meal, 18 playful toys to foster joy, 14 durable leashes for safe walks, and 2 grooming brushes to help keep furry friends looking their best.

In addition, every month during the school year, the compassionate 5th-grade students take on the heartfelt responsibility of serving lunch to local senior citizens at the Wrightwood CSD’s Senior Lunch Program. During the month of February, these lunches are made even more special with the inclusion of colorfully decorated Valentine’s cards crafted by the students, spreading warmth and cheer to every senior citizen in attendance.
October at Wrightwood Elementary transforms into “Socktober,” a spirited campaign where students eagerly gather to donate new socks for those in need, which are then distributed to local homeless shelters, making a tangible difference in the lives of others.
As the holiday season approaches, students participate in the Joy Jars project, where they donate carefully selected items to fill jars that are given to children battling cancer. Each Joy Jar is filled with toys, games, and gifts designed to bring smiles and comfort during challenging times.
The community is fortunate to have these enriching programs at Wrightwood Elementary School, which not only promote awareness but also inspire our students to actively contribute to the well-being of the greater community.
