The Wrightwood Community Building recently came alive with fine dining and the sounds of live music as the Wrightwood Blues Society hosted its “Not So Newlywed Show” on Valentine’s Day 2026.

Guests were greeted and seated, with a warm atmosphere as attendees enjoyed a delicious meal featuring lasagna, fresh salad, bread, and a variety of drinks. As they dined, local musicians Bobby O, Dave Cimino, Craig Kupka, Gayle Dowling, Michelle Meyers, Mathew Martin-Hall, and Eric and Bonnie Matsen performed beloved favorites such as “You Send Me,” “I Just Called to Say I Love You,” and “My Girl.” Michelle and Mathew delivered a clever duet about married life, while Gale and Matt energized the crowd with a lively rendition of “Jackson.”

After dinner, four local couples: Suzi and Paul McKinney, Janic Quick and Ben Smith, Barbara and Rodger Whitten, and Lori and Bob Gibbs—took the stage to compete in the Not So Newlywed Game show, where questions were delivered by Wrightwood Blues Society President, Greg Jones. This segment sparked laughter and excitement, engaging both participants and the audience in friendly competition. In the end, Barbra and Roger Whitten matched the most answers, winning the contest, proving how well they really know each other. One succesful question they answered was, what does your wife hope you never stop doing? Roger’s answer was, she hopes I never stop loving her. He was right! Which was endearing to everyone in the room.

The Blues Society event was made possible by the generous support of local businesses and community members such as Whole Life Soap, Mountain High Resort, The Village Grind, Sandy Jones and the Wrightwood Blues Society and dedicated volunteers Michelle Meyers and Mary Jane Jennings, along with the sound and engineering technician, Davey Schneider. Organizers extended their gratitude to all who contributed to the evening’s success.

Proceeds from the event will benefit Wrightwood’s Got Talent K-12 scholarship program, supporting young local artists and performers as they pursue their dreams.

The Wrightwood Blues Society is a nonprofit organization. The purpose of the WBS is to promote charitable, educational, and musical activities honoring the American tradition of the Blues and derivatives. The WBS Board Member includes Dr. Greg Jones (President), Mr. Mathew Martin-Hall (Vice President) Dr. Sandy Visser-Jones (Secretary), Ms. Darleen Vorobyov (Treasurer), and Dr. Mark Stafford (Special Projects).
