If it’s a refreshing day in the water you’re looking for, pack a cooler and head up to Big Rock Creek for the day. Mountain High manages several recreational areas in the forest and requires a Big Pines Parking Pass in order to park at any of those locations. Those locations are:
- Appletree Campground
- Arch Picnic Area
- Grassy Hollow Campground/Picnic Area
- Inspiration Point Trailhead
- Mescal Picnic Area
- Northshore Fishing Site
- Peavine Campground
- Vincent Gap Trailhead
Big Pines Parking Passes may be purchased at Mountain High’s North Lodge, Jackson Lake, and the Grassy Hollow Visitors Center during operating hours.

All other locations within the forest will require an Adventure Pass which can be purchased at Mountain Hardware, Wrightwood Market, Wrightwood Fine Foods, Rocket Gas Station in Phelan, the Big Pines Visitor Center or online at www.myscenicdrives.com/store/#forest-passes-southern-california. The purchase price for either pass is $5 for a day pass and $30 for a season pass. The funds go towards the upkeep and maintenance of the facilities available at these and numerous other California National Forest locations.
