There’s a new women’s clothing store in town! The She Shed Boutique is owned and operated by local Phelan resident Liliana Mensi, who immigrated to America from Argentina 35 years ago. “I wanted the American Dream. To live in America, become a citizen, own my own business, and wear cowboy boots!” said Lili, who has now successfully completed each of her goals by opening her small business in Phelan just last year.
The She Shed Boutique is located on Phelan Road in the same shopping center as The Skillet Cafe, Karla’s Salon & Barbershop, and the Phelan Market convenience store. The boutique is welcoming, with natural lighting and an impressive selection of clothing displayed throughout the shop, including women’s shoes, dresses, intimates, jewelry, hats, and more. “I’m happy because everyone who comes in here likes the place. So far, I hear all positive stuff,” said Lili, who thoughtfully designed the shop and even included pieces of furniture she lovingly painted and up-cycled herself. The affirmation from shoppers has helped her to overcome the challenges she had at the beginning of her entrepreneurial endeavor. “I had a little bit of fear. I was scared because I didn’t know how to do it. But once I got it all set up, I could breathe,” said Lili. Now, she says the best part about owning her small business is all the friends and deep, meaningful connections she’s made with women in the community. “I wanted to sell clothes to make women feel good but also want them to feel comfortable coming in here. Women come back here to talk to me about not just the weather but about their families and their lives.”
The loyal shoppers are captivated not only by the friendly service but also by the selection of clothing and affordability. “Although everything is brand new, I don’t want to be a pricey boutique,” said Lili, who worked for a wholesale clothing company before owning her store. Her years of wholesale experience have led her to find the best deals on fashionable clothing. Being one of Phelan’s only women’s clothing stores, she’s finding success since there’s little competition. “When opening a business, I looked for what was missing in town,” said Lili.
Today, Lili is looking forward to the new year and focusing on opportunities to help her business grow. Be sure to visit Lili and her daughter Nathalie at the She Shed Boutique at 4646 Phelan Road. The shop is open Tuesday through Saturday from 9:30 am to 4:00 pm. Follow them on social media @thesheshed66 on Instagram and Facebook @The She Shed Boutique in Phelan.
