Sunset Community Little League Celebrates Another Great Season With Opening Day Festivities

Play Ball! Sunset little league players are turning third base and heading home!

Phelan Elementary School was buzzing with excitement on Saturday, April 6th, 2024, as Sunset Community Little League held its annual Opening Day ceremonies. Families, players, and supporters from across the community gathered to celebrate the start of another great season of baseball.

The day began with an invocation by Coach Daniel Flores, followed by the recognition of the Sunset Community Little League Board of Directors. President Johnathon Cisneros addressed the crowd, officially kicking off the festivities.

One of the highlights of the day was the introduction of all 32 teams (400 players) in the league, ranging from T-Ball to Seniors. As each team was announced, the players ran around the bases to cheers from their families and supporters. The league also recognized the All-Star teams from the previous season and presented the Hometown Heroes Award to Patsy Wanco and her family.

Throughout the day, there were food trucks, fundraisers, and various activities for attendees to enjoy. The opening day game featured two teams from the Majors, the Sunset Bananas and the Party Animals, with the Bananas emerging victorious.

Speaking about the importance of community involvement, Little League President, Johnathon Cisneros, remarked, “Our league thrives because of the dedication and passion of our community. It’s heartwarming to see everyone come together to support our young athletes.”

As the sun set on Phelan Elementary, the sounds of laughter and camaraderie lingered in the air, serving as a reminder of just how important youth sports are and how much the Sunset Community Little League is engrained in the lives of this community. With the support of their families, coaches, and community behind them, the young athletes of Sunset Community Little League are poised to make lasting memories and forge lifelong friendships in the season ahead.

The Sunset Community Little League is a beloved institution in the community, and with the start of another fantastic season, it’s clear that the spirit of Little League will continue to inspire and unite our youth to play fair and strive to win, but win or loose always do their best.
