Phelan Elementary School was buzzing with excitement on Saturday, April 6th, 2024, as Sunset Community Little League held its annual Opening Day ceremonies. Families, players, and supporters from across the community gathered to celebrate the start of another great season of baseball.

The day began with an invocation by Coach Daniel Flores, followed by the recognition of the Sunset Community Little League Board of Directors. President Johnathon Cisneros addressed the crowd, officially kicking off the festivities.

One of the highlights of the day was the introduction of all 32 teams (400 players) in the league, ranging from T-Ball to Seniors. As each team was announced, the players ran around the bases to cheers from their families and supporters. The league also recognized the All-Star teams from the previous season and presented the Hometown Heroes Award to Patsy Wanco and her family.

Throughout the day, there were food trucks, fundraisers, and various activities for attendees to enjoy. The opening day game featured two teams from the Majors, the Sunset Bananas and the Party Animals, with the Bananas emerging victorious.

Speaking about the importance of community involvement, Little League President, Johnathon Cisneros, remarked, “Our league thrives because of the dedication and passion of our community. It’s heartwarming to see everyone come together to support our young athletes.”
