Snowline Joint Unified School District and Providence St. Mary Medical Center have partnered to bring “Stop the Bleed” training to Serrano High School, equipping students and staff with crucial emergency response skills that can save lives.
The Stop the Bleed program, developed by the American College of Surgeons and supported by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, teaches participants how to recognize life-threatening bleeding and respond quickly using direct pressure, wound packing, and tourniquet application. These practical, hands-on techniques empower individuals to act confidently in the critical moments before first responders arrive.
The partnership was initiated by Jessica Samorajski, Prehospital Care Coordinator at Providence St. Mary Medical Center, who reached out to Snowline to organize this important training. “Our mission is to ensure that community members are prepared to take action when seconds count,” said Samorajski. “By bringing ‘Stop the Bleed’ to local schools like Serrano High School, we’re helping empower students and staff with the skills and confidence to make a lifesaving difference.”
“This partnership with Providence St. Mary is an incredible example of our community coming together to educate, inspire, and prepare,” said Robert Chacon, Snowline JUSD Public Information Officer. “We’re proud to give our students and staff hands-on training that can save lives and look forward to bringing this opportunity to more Snowline schools.”
Students and staff who participated in the training called it eye-opening and empowering. The district plans to continue collaborating with Providence St. Mary Medical Center to offer additional sessions in the months ahead.
