A weeklong crime suppression effort in San Bernardino County has resulted in 23 felony arrests and the seizure of 29 firearms, including six ghost guns. The operation, conducted from June 1 to June 7, 2024, is part of the ongoing “Operation Consequences” initiative aimed at curbing violent crime and disrupting criminal street gangs in the region.
Investigators from multiple law enforcement agencies collaborated during the operation, including the Sheriff’s Gangs/Narcotics Division, California Highway Patrol, and Department of Homeland Security Investigations. The operation culminated in a focused effort on June 7 in the High Desert area. Throughout the week, law enforcement served 20 search warrants across San Bernardino, Adelanto, Hesperia, Victorville, and Apple Valley.
During these operations, investigators made contact with gang members and individuals prohibited from possessing firearms. The 29 firearms seized included six ghost guns, which are untraceable firearms that can be assembled from kits or 3D-printed parts. The operation targeted several specific locations, including the 29000 Block of Birdy Ct., Nuevo, the 12300 Block of Oasis Rd., Pinion Hills and the 14000 Block of Seneca Rd., Victorville.
Operation Consequences is a countywide initiative funded by the San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors. The board has authorized additional funds to assist with crime suppression efforts. “The intent is to provide additional funding to the Sheriff’s Department, allowing for increased law enforcement services related to quality-of-life issues affecting the communities in our county,” a spokesperson for the Sheriff’s Department says.
The operation is set to continue over the next several months, focusing on conducting targeted crime suppression operations and parole and probation checks in the High Desert and the Sheriff’s jurisdiction surrounding San Bernardino. Law enforcement officials state that the primary objectives of Operation Consequences are to curb violent crime, dismantle targeted criminal street gangs, and arrest criminals who are illegally possessing, manufacturing, and trafficking firearms.
The seizure of ghost guns during this operation underscores the growing concern among law enforcement about these untraceable firearms. Ghost guns pose a significant challenge to investigators as they lack serial numbers and are often assembled from parts purchased online or 3D-printed.
As Operation Consequences continues, residents of San Bernardino County can expect to see ongoing efforts to improve public safety and reduce criminal activity in their communities. The Sheriff’s Department encourages community members to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to local law enforcement.
The success of this weeklong operation demonstrates the potential impact of sustained, targeted law enforcement efforts. As the operation progresses, officials hope to see a significant reduction in violent crime and gang activity across San Bernardino County.
