San Bernardino County Assessor-Recorder-County Clerk Josie Gonzales is pleased to announce the appointment of Abril Duran as the new Assistant Assessor.
Duran brings 25 years of distinguished service to San Bernardino County, most recently serving as Chief Appraiser overseeing Real Property District Offices, Business Property, and Standards and Training. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from California State University, San Bernardino, and is an Advanced Certified Property Tax Auditor-Appraiser, credentialed by the California State Board of Equalization.
Since joining the County in 2000 as an Office Assistant III, Duran has steadily advanced through multiple roles, including Land Use Technician, Appraiser Trainee through Appraiser III, Supervising District Appraiser, and Principal Appraiser. Her breadth of experience spans leadership of district offices in Ontario, Hesperia, Barstow, and Needles, as well as critical work in standards, training, and appeals. She has also served in the Departments of Behavioral Health, Land Use Services, and the Assessor-Recorder-County Clerk.
Beyond her professional achievements, Duran is a proud graduate of the County’s Management and Leadership Academy, having completed the Supervisor Development Program (2013) and the Management Development Program (2023). She continues to give back as an MLA Mentor (2024) and, most recently, as an MLA Mentor and Coach (2025).
As Assistant Assessor, Duran will oversee the operations of the Assessor’s District Offices, the Business Property Unit, Assessment Services (including exemptions), the Appeals and Special Properties units, as well as the ARC Information Technology team. In this capacity, she will play a vital role in ensuring fair, accurate, and timely property assessments while driving innovation and efficiency across the organization.
