Golden State Water Company has repaired the storm-damaged fire hydrant that triggered Wrightwood’s boil water notice, restoring full water pressure across the community, according to a company spokesperson in a written statement to NewsPlus.
Heavy debris flows and flooding this week damaged the hydrant, lowering water pressure and prompting a precautionary boil water notice for all Wrightwood customers.
A Golden State Water Company spokesperson confirmed that after crews repaired the hydrant, they ensured water pressure was restored to normal levels, and water supplies are stable as operations continue.
While water pressure has been restored, the boil water notice remains in effect while water quality testing is completed.
“The safety of customers is our top priority. The Boil Water Notice is a precaution as water quality testing is underway,” the spokesperson said. “When the water is deemed safe to drink, the Boil Water Notice will be lifted, and customers will be notified.”
Golden State Water said it is not aware of any additional damage to tanks, wells, or water mains at this time, and no other leaks or breaks have been identified. The system continues to operate on emergency generators as crews monitor conditions during the ongoing storm.
Some Wrightwood residents had questioned whether the boil water notice applied to all parts of town, especially areas that did not experience low water pressure. Golden State Water confirmed that the order applies to every customer in the Wrightwood water system.
“While the damaged fire hydrant resulted in lower water pressure within portions of the water system, the Boil Water Notice was deployed to every customer within the water system,” the spokesperson said. “This precaution is necessary until the water quality tests demonstrate that the water is safe to drink.”
Customers should boil tap water for drinking and cooking until the notice is lifted. Golden State Water will post updates at www.gswater.com/wrightwood and provide information through its 24-hour customer service center at 800-999-4033. Customers will be directly informed when water is safe to use without boiling.
