The San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors is pleased to announce a new initiative to help their furry friends find their fur-ever homes! A total of $30,000 has been allocated to cover pet adoption fees now through June 30, 2027, or until funds run out.
This funding aims to find loving families for approximately 1,700 pets, reducing financial barriers for residents in the Tri-Community and beyond, while easing the current strain on our local shelter systems.
When you adopt from the Big Bear or Devore Animal Shelters, your qualifying adoption includes:
- Spaying or Neutering
- Age-appropriate Vaccinations
- Microchipping: Provided at no cost for all cats and dogs thanks to the Animals aRe First Fund (ARFF).
Both shelters offer dedicated meet-and-greet areas where you can bond with your future pet, ensuring a purr-fect match before finalizing the adoption. You can view all currently available pets online at: animalcare.sbcounty.gov/pets/ or by visiting the shelters.
Additional noteworthy programs and perks offered at both Big Bear and Devore Animal Shelters include:
- Always Free for Heroes & Seniors: Adoption fees are waived for Veterans (with a valid “Veteran” ID) and Seniors aged 65+.
- Pet Insurance: Past, present, and future adopters qualify for MetLife Pet Insurance through ARFF. For more details on ARFF, visit https://arffund.org/.
