After more than two decades of serving the Tri-Community from his Phelan office, local attorney Phillip T. Vondra, Esq., has made the heartfelt decision to consolidate operations with his Victorville office. The change marks the end of an era for Vondra and the community he has called home for so long. However, while the office may be closing, Vondra’s dedication to the Tri-Community is unwavering.
“It’s important to me that everyone knows I’m not leaving the community behind,” Vondra said. The decision to consolidate is bittersweet. Consolidating the offices makes sense, but leaving the community he loves is difficult.
Vondra is a longtime resident of the Tri-Community, with his family having moved to Wrightwood in 1977. A graduate of Serrano High School in 1983, Vondra was an active and involved student with fond memories of playing basketball. His high school basketball team photo, proudly displayed in his office, reminds him daily of growing up in a community where everybody knew everybody.
Following high school, Vondra sought to further his education. He earned his undergraduate degree from the University of California, Irvine, and a law degree from the Thomas Jefferson School of Law in San Diego in 1991. He began his legal career in criminal defense, where he honed his courtroom skills. In 1998, he returned to the High Desert to raise his family and establish a personal injury practice in Phelan—a decision that allowed him to blend his professional aspirations with his love for the community he calls home.
Over the years, Vondra has built a thriving practice on trust, integrity and an understanding of the community where he lives and works. His reputation as an attorney who offers honest, straightforward advice has been one of his greatest assets. Vondra’s clients often become his best supporters in a community where recommendations matter most. They refer others to him because he shows care and commitment to each case. His ability to negotiate effectively and litigate fiercely has earned him the respect of clients and colleagues.
Outside of his professional career, Vondra has been an active member of the community. Since returning to Wrightwood, he has continually worked to support local efforts, including helping to establish the Wrightwood Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) program. It is one way for Vondra to give back to the community he loves.
The decision to consolidate his offices was not made lightly. After 26 years in Phelan, closing the office was an emotional milestone. “Scraping my old sign off the window was a tough day, and I did it with tears in my eyes,” Vondra said. While consolidating with the Victorville office makes sense logistically, Vondra admits it’s hard to say goodbye to the physical space that has been such an integral part of his journey.
What Vondra wants the community to know is that this isn’t goodbye. His presence in the Tri-Community remains strong, and he is committed to serving it as he always has. “This isn’t just where I work; it’s where I raised my family and built lifelong relationships. That doesn’t go away just because my office moves,” Vondra said.
Reflecting on the support he has received from the Tri-Community over the years, he said, “This place has shaped me, and I’m forever grateful.” Although the Phelan office is no longer in operation, his passion and dedication to the community he has always called home are stronger than ever.
