The Wrightwood Arts Center’s June art exhibit will feature local Wrightwood photographer Thaddeus Sissing. The exhibit opens with a free community reception on Saturday, June 6th from 5pm-7pm and will remain open for public viewing throughout the month of June, during the Wrightwood Art Center’s regular hours of operation, which are Friday-Sunday, 12:00 pm-5:00 pm at 6045 Park Dr. in Wrightwood.

Thaddeus first discovered his creative interests while taking design classes in high school. Over the years, he found that landscape photography offered the perfect blend of his love for nature and visual design. Although for Thaddeus, photography is more than capturing a beautiful image, it’s a way to help people see the landscapes around them in a new light.

“Through my photography, I try to help people appreciate the landscape and the fleeting moments of changing light, vegetation, wildlife, and weather conditions around where they live,” Thaddeus explained.

He also describes his artistic style as local, ephemeral, and intentional, since much of his creative process involves observing the environment around him and patiently waiting for the right conditions to align.

“Most days that I work on my photography, I just observe my surroundings and make notes based on what I think they will look like in different conditions,” he explained. “When things come together to make a composition I planned, it’s really satisfying.”

Thaddeus has been living in Wrightwood for the past 11 years which provides endless inspiration, with changing seasons, dramatic weather, and mountain wildlife all contributing to the scenes he captures through his cameras lens. But when Thaddeus isn’t outside photographing nature, he enjoys spending quiet time at home drinking coffee, listening to birds in his backyard, shooting hoops in his driveway, and cooking delicious food.

If you can’t make it to the Wrightwood Arts Center this month you can still view Thaddeus’ amazing artwork on his website at thaddeussissing.com or follow him on Instagram at @thaddeussissing where he posts his photographs, showcasing all of natures’ beauty.
