Deputies are investigating a burglary after two suspects broke into a Phelan home early Wednesday morning and fled when the resident confronted them with gunfire.

According to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, the incident occurred around 2:10 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 3 in the 9000 block of Alta Mesa Avenue.

The victim told deputies he heard noises coming from another bedroom and discovered two suspects inside the residence. He retrieved a handgun and chased the suspects through the home, firing several rounds as they fled.

The suspects exited the house and left the scene before deputies arrived. It is unknown whether the gunfire struck either suspect.
